Alive! Whole Food Energizer

Adams’ likes the Alive multi, and I have to mostly agree. It is what I am taking right now. However, he makes a stupid statement that irritates me and lends me to trust his judgement less.
The only problem with Alive! is that people don’t take enough. The recommended daily dose is a mere 3 tablets a day. Personally, I take ten tablets, and that’s on top of all the superfoods I take on the side. Alive! isn’t a drug. It’s food. You can’t overdose with it. You could eat the entire bottle each day and be better for it.
It’s not food. It’s a vitamin. And one that contains iron. 18 mg per serving. He is taking over mg a day of iron alone in this pill which is too much and can lead to toxic iron levels. Further, it has synthetic vitamin A which can also be toxic when too much is taken, especially for pregnant women.

Annie,
He says the same thing about spirulina in the e-book that you linked to a few days ago–that you can’t overdose because it’s just food. Is that true? Also, do you have a good online source for spirulina, and are you taking it (how much) while nursing? Thanks so much for passing on all your discoveries and info!

Tami - Spirulina is food, really, so you can’t od on that. His error is in saying that the vitamin is just food. Its part food, but also part vitamin! Spirulina is all food and all good! I use a Tbls or 2 in my smoothie everyday - then use blueberries to hide the green, although now I bet my family would drink it if it were brown! They beg me for “smoovie, mommy! Smoovie!”
So far I buy my Spirulina at whole foods, the cheapest one that still says it is grown w/o pesticides and has no contaminants, but when I run out I am going to look for an online source.

Annie,
I have been reading on your site for a little over a month, and have found lots of great information. I am in the process of making healthy changes in my life, and was currently researching adding Spirulina to my diet, when I noticed your posting about prices. I ran across this website: http://www.vitacost.com/EarthriseCertifiedOrganicSpirulina/csrc-SHOPFEED-nextag
The price is $8.55 for Earthrise Organic Spirulina (180g powder). I have never purchased this product before, but compared to other online prices, this seems to be really good!

That does seem a good price! Thanks for linking it! I wonder how much shipping is . . .

He probably just uses the iron-free Alive Whole Food Energizer. They sell both versions, but at my Whole Foods they only carry the one without added iron.

Al - Yes, the iron free might be ok - although there is still the synthetic Vitamin A in it, and 10 is over 15,000 IU, way too much for women of childbearing age.
I just think it shows carelessness at best to urge people to pop a VITAMIN like it was food. It has some food in it, but it isn’t all food.
